Tobacco Nicotine use is a leading preventable cause of death in the world, directly and indirectly responsible for 440,000 deaths per year. The health problems that result in tobacco use tally an annual of $75 billion in direct medical costs (Slovic 36). Education vs Sports Essay Example For Students

Education vs Sports Essay Some say that sports in America are favored more by people who live elsewhere. I wonder why. Studies have shown that some people like the fact that most sports have some type of physical contact. Why is that most Americans rather watch sports on television than read a book, maybe because some find it more interesting? I find that reading is just as interesting as watching sports or doing anything else. In my opinion education is more important than sports. When I was a child I was enrolled in Head Start. Head Start is a program for kids that are too young to start school yet. Being in Head Start puts you ahead of your class. The program was designed to better prepare you for your future academic success. Once it was time for you to advance to preschool you were given a test to see if you had learned a sufficient amount of information to past preschool to go right into first grade. If you did not pass the test you still went to preschool with some sense of what was ahead. Either way you were still progressing in Head Start. Although Head Start is not required for kids parents enrolled their kids in the program to better prepare them for their upcoming school years. I havent found any sports program that parents enrolled their kids in before they put them in something educational. My parents instilled in me that education is the key to success. This is where my view on sports vs. education originates from. I believe that education is the key and is more important than any sport. Growing up most, if not all parents told their kids to go to school and get good grades so that you can get a good job and raise your own family one day. Being told that, that was most kids goal. In school you learned your required task to go to the next grade. The feeling of accelerating to the next grade is awesome! Once you have achieved this feeling you will want to pass all your courses not only because your parents told you but to feel accomplished. I loved that feeling! I strived for excellence in all my class. You can be a sports fan and still value education. The problem comes in when you values sports more the education. In middle school sports were introduced into the school atmosphere. I believed that this was a good thing at one point of time. Before middle school, sports were played just for fun around the school. They were only taken seriously if you were on a recreational team which was done outside of school. This still put education before sports or any other extracurricular activities. I wonder what made thing change. It seems as if education was the main topic for kids. It was extremely important to go to school solely for an education to better yourself. Somewhere in time the reason for going to school changed. I have come to the assumption that most kids in middle school went to school just for the social aspect which somewhat included sports. This is the time where I feel like sports got the upper hand on education. I liked the fact that sports where open to anyone before they got too competitive. I believe that once school officials started to notice what sports could do for a school they geared their attention away for education and on to sport. Sports bring in more revenue into a school than good grades. This is the one of the only thing that I feel could possible take attention away from what school is all about. Money is a key factor in life generally. Money is another major reason why some might switch their focus from education to sports. Athletes are in the lime light so once you reach a certain age and see all the perks of being famous some might like and want that life style. I believe that sometimes it appears easier to pursue the things you love and want in life instead of the things you need. It seems that some find it harder to stay in school because of one main factor: money. After youre done with high school you have to pay for the rest of your education. To some this is burden. I feel that money is always needed and wanted in life. At one point in time I wanted to choose an easier path or what I thought was easier and it wasnt education. Most college students leave school with debt that they have to pay back. College is supposed to better you but sometimes seems as if its brining you down due to all the constant struggles. Failing grades, worrying about financial aid, unhelpful tutoring and making the right decision are sometimes struggles that bring you down while in college. Through it all you must keep your eye on the prize which is graduating. Never the less when it comes to education vs. sports, education will and should always out weight sports. Looking at the bigger picture education will and can take you a longer way than sports. If youre an athlete that didnt finish school and you get hurt, what do you have to fall back on? Nothing, you can only get a mediocre job in the real world. Its better to prepare for the worst even if nothing ever happens. Thats why I feel that education is the key! Ancient Greek Life

Ancient Greek Life Free Online Research Papers Have you ever wondered how life would be like to live in a different country that was very different from your own country that you live in? Well, let’s take a look at Athens, and Sparta. Take a look at some of the differences between those three countries. Pretend that you are one of their people and wonder what it would be like to be in their shoes. Also, most of the different backgrounds of life may be different. Sparta is one of the major city-state in Greece. Sparta was unique among the Greek city-states because of the rigid program of military indoctrination is instilled in its very own populace. Athens is the capitol city of Greece. It is one of the largest cities in Greece and is always busy. Now let’s compare the two. The government in Athens had a limited democracy. There was about 40,000 men who were citizens and there was no political power from women, children, and slaves. In Sparta there was about two kings, with 28 elders and a council. There was about less than 10, 000 citizens. The population in Athens had about 140,000 and in Sparta which had only less than half of what Athens had. Women in Sparta were definitely had an exception in ancient Greece. Sparta women wore a chitin with a short skirt. Which was a two piece dress that was stitched on the left and a belt secured the garment to the body. The clothes that the Sparta women wore allowed freedom of movement for all women, which was a useful impute. Sparta women and girls took part in athletic contests. Which were running, discus hurling, and javelin throwing. Sparta women and girls performed in festivals and sang in choirs and danced. The Athens girls spent most of their time in her household with other women and they only leave when they have to perform religious duties. Athens women were married in their teenage years, usually to a man in his 30’s. After they got married they would both give offerings to the god’s and share a cake with their husband. One of the major educations in Sparta were the military learning and were to produce soilder – citizens. In Sparta, the purpose of education was to produce a well-drilled and well-disciplines army. Spartans believed in a life or discipline, self denial, and simplicity. Those were very loyal to the state of Sparta.Every male or female in Sparta were required to have a perfect body. Sparta boys were sent to military school at age 6 or 7. They would live, train and sleep in their barracks of their brotherhood. In school, the boys were taught survival skills and other skills necessary to be a great soilder. The school subjects were very hard and often painful. Also, students were taught to read and write, those skills were not very important in ancient Sparta. Sparta girls were sent to school at the age of 6 or 7. They lived, slept and trained in their sisterhood’s barracks. No one knows if thieir school was a as cruel as rugged as the boys school, but the girls were taugh t wrestling, gymnastics and combat skills. In conclusion, I would say that I would like to live in Athens more than Sparta because I like to live in a busy city. Even though, most of the education and economics maybe difficult and challenging I think it would be loads of fun. I would say. But then again, it could be so tiring and very hard – working. Purpose To set out the relevant aspects of Contract and Negligence for an employment agency Objective To identify the essential contents of a Contract To apply the elements of a Contract in a business situation To outline the elements of Negligence relative to Law of Tort To illustrate the principles of Liability in Negligence Literature Review Employment agencies have a contractual relationship with prospective employees, which compels the agency to act in the best interests of the applicants. So in the normal course of business, an employment agency’s failure, to (i) foresee some danger to their applicants and (ii) in its ability to exercise some control over which employers it makes available to the applicants, will make the employment agency liable for damages. In other words, the employment agency will be liable for negligence if it fails to exercise the duty of care. As such, according to UsLegal.com, â€Å"the basis of liability under the doctrine of negligent hiring is the master’s own negligence in hiring or retaining in his employ an incompetent servant whom the master knows, or by the exercise of reasonable care should have known, was incompetent or unfit, thereby creating an unreasonable risk of harm to others.† Hence ultimately the employment agency owes a duty to its inventory of employees and to the general public to ascertain the qualifications and competence of the potential employee applicants it hires, especially where employees are engaged in occupations that require skill or experience and where there could be a hazard to the safety of others. It therefore goes without saying that due to the nature of the contractual agreements involve with operating an employment agency, it is imperative that operators of such an establishment be aware of the legal concepts of liability in order to ensure that negligent risk is minimized and contractual agreements are not in breach between employer and employee. The formal relationship between employer and employee relative to the legal aspects of Contract and Negligence, as noted by reviewed literature, is of paramount concern when conducting the of an employment agency. With the information collected twenty years back would not necessarily apply to the same issue of solving a problem as technologies has evolve over the years that even has forensic evidence. It is this researcher opinion that primary sources will not be of any benefit to this business law report. References USLEGAL.COM. 2014. Free Essays on Click Thorugh Rate

Click-through rate (CTR) and Brand Awareness! The web is amazing. You can move around this medium, going "virtually" anywhere. And just think what it means to your brand to be able to generate awareness and have a two-way presence in an editorial environment that has affinity with your product or service? Yes, yes. What a powerful branding medium this could be, placing advertisers' images and messaging in an appropriate editorial context, but with the added benefit of being able to have the potential consumer communicate with the brand. What a great medium for exercising a little engagement branding, getting folks to involve themselves in brand by having brand affiliated with this two-way medium. The promise of Internet advertising has always been that it is more quantifiable than advertising offline. Being able to quantify the impact of branding, and eventually develop best practices that work best for us, is a great benefit for the Internet advertising industry. One of the measurement tools is the Click-Through Rate. The average number of click-through’s per hundred ad impressions, expressed as a percentage is a CTR. It is important to distinguish what a click-through rate does and does not measure. The CTR measures what percentage of people clicked on the ad to arrive at the destination site; it does not include the people who failed to click, yet arrived at the site later as a result of seeing the ad. Merely getting visitors to a site had value when Web site traffic was generally accepted as a measure of success. Though, the trend towards profitability, along with better tracking tools, has resulted in less interest in click-through rates. Click-through has been one of the standard ways to measure the effectiveness of online ads. They allow advertisers to track not just how many people see a particular ad, but how many are engaged enough to "click through" to the underlying Web site. Compared with traditional advertising, ... Tuesdays with Morrie Essay Example

Tuesdays with Morrie Essay Example Tuesdays with Morrie Essay Tuesdays with Morrie Essay I read the assignment in the syllabus, I was disgusted. I didnt want to read a book, and I didnt honestly plan to do so. I mentioned my frustration to my roommate. When she asked what book, I told her. It turned out she owned her own personal hardcover copy of Tuesdays with Morris. I took the book, and read the first couple pages. The first couple of pages turned Into the first couple of chapters. I ended up reading the book in record time. When I finished reading It, I went and ended the movie as well. Then I went back to the syllabus. Read the book, and write a reflection paper on it. Thats a pretty broadly stated assignment I thought. At first, this bothered me and I didnt know where to start, but now I am relieved that I have that kind of freedom in writing this paper. I am not going to sit and report on what the book contains as far as plot. That would make this a report and not a reflection. As I think back to the book, many things go through my head. First, I think of Mitch, then Morris, and then I think of the many parallels between this story and my own relationship with a close teacher of the past. Mitch Album proves In this book that he has beautiful writing skills. At first I cried, and couldnt bare the thought. He had always inspired me to be a teacher, but now for a different reason then before. At one point in time while reading the book, I stopped mid-sentence, pulled out a piece of lined paper, and rote a letter to my eighth grade teacher, who was a friend of my father. When I finished the book, I began to wonder what I would do when my teacher of life lessons died. The start of the book to the finish, he walks the reader through his own meetings with Morris. He appreciated silence, food, and dancing among many other things. As far as the interpersonal communication that can be observed through this book. There is an awful lot to mention. There was an extremely effective amount of indirect communication between Mitch and myself, the reader. Because of the effect on me, another set of communication took place between my teacher and me. His philosophy was that you must learn to die before you know how to live. He appreciated life and all the little things in it. Even though I dreaded this assignment when I first received it, I have come to appreciate it and be thankful for it. The reader Is pulled in wanting to hear the next life lesson. Then I realized that I have the chance to do what Mitch did.

Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons Essay

Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons - Essay Example As described in one of the pages the official website of the Museum of Fine Arts entitled 100 Highlights of the MFAH, the military soldiers wear helmet, short tunics, and body army; and are equipped with swords and round shields. The Amazons, on the other hand, ride in horses with their companions lying dead on the ground. The outcome of the battle is depicted in the four corners of the sarcophagus—with the military soldiers waving the Amazon’s weapons like claimed trophies and the Amazons kneeling with their hands bound behind their backs. On the other hand, the lid of the sarcophagus is designed in the shape of a Roman temple, with fine rows of vertical tiles that end in the heads of the lion. Its edges are ornamented with round shields. It is important to note, therefore, that the artwork in the sarcophagus highlights the triumph of military soldiers against the Amazons. At this point, I wish to divide this paper into two parts. The first part will focus on the essen tial elements that constitute the artwork. Thus, I intend to investigate how the different artistic elements collaborate in creating a unified message of the painting. For the next part, I will use the assessments made in the first part to come up with a firmer analysis of the sarcophagus. In this light, I aim to explore the main theme of the artwork by appealing to both its superficial and its subliminal messaging. Assessment of Artistic Elements In examining the artistic elements of the sarcophagus, I have to first present the core idea of the artwork. It is apparent that the Romans wanted to underscore the triumph of the military soldiers in the battle. Since the sarcophagus was intended to serve as the final resting place for the Roman military commander, the artwork essentially immortalized the great vigor, courage, and aggressiveness not only of the Roman soldiers but more importantly of the Roman commander. By examining the sarcophagus part by part, I wish to reinforce my cla im on the core idea of the artwork. First, I like to focus on its overall form. The exterior design of the sarcophagus is a Roman temple, as observed in its lid and body. For the lid, it is apparent that it follows the intricate and carefully adorned roof of a Roman temple. The sophistication of the roof’s design is evidenced by the round shields that are placed on its edges; the heads of the lions that are situated on the roof panels; and the wavy-shaped ornaments that are positioned at the center of the roof. For the body, the warrior figures serve as its primary design. The various battle situations depicted in the sarcophagus further add to its dramatic feel. Taking the discussion from a visual to a perceptual point-of-view, it is obvious that the artwork, through the use of various artistic elements like movement and texture as delivered by the wavy lines and round-shaped ornaments, is able to successfully capture: firstly, the liveliness and the brutality of the battle; secondly, the triumph of the Roman warriors against the Amazons; and lastly, the greatness of the Roman race in general. It is important to take these three interrelated concepts to better understand the main theme of the artwork. Assessing the Main Theme In assessing the main theme of the artwork, it is necessary to go beyond its form by focusing on its substance. For this matter, I wish to include a socio-political perspective to enrich my qualitative examination of the artwork. While the triumph of t

Human wk8 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Human wk8 - Essay Example Reeve (2009) states that identity plays a part in what people want to present to the world. How one perceived themselves, and how they will cope with a situation is self-efficacy. This becomes a motivating factor in situations where one has to deal with different situations. As an example, in my case, when dealing with difficulties in my life, I was able to overcome them because I could draw on my past experience. My self-esteem helped me "hang in there" when times were tough and this also helped in my developing an inner strength. I understand that how I have lived my life has given an opportunity for me to understand my inner strength. An individual is motivated to change when they are strong in themselves. Agency, the aspect of the self that provides the intrinsic motivation, is built as people go through life experience. Reeve (2009) states that this intrinsic motivation is what drives the individual. In order for change to occur, an individual must have something that will push them to it. This can be a death, a divorce or other traumatic situation, or the individual can move forward because there is something that motivates them to do so, such as a need to make more money or to develop different aspects of their lives. References Reeve. J. (2009). Understanding motivation and emotion (5th ed.). CA: Wiley. Assignment 3 My final project will discuss the education of teens in Liberia with an emphasis on female teens. The project will also discuss some of the history of education and what teens need in terms of education. As I continue my research, I wonder how these children will be motivated to change their lives. When thinking about self-efficacy theory, it is important to understand how social issues deal with this theory. The new president of Liberia has made the education of female children a priority. In order to understand the reason one has to look deeper into what has happened for these teens. Many girls have had to fight in their civil war. Other g irls have also been victims of rape, abuse and other criminal activity against them. The challenge for many children in this type of situation is to overcome these situations. Many will go to counseling and this may be something that would need to be factored into part of their education. When looking at behavior change for these children I think that they must first have an intrinsic need to change. This would come from a deep understanding that they could move out of any negative situation. According to Johnson (2004), behavior change comes when a situation happens that creates a feeling inside an individual that moves them forward. When I look at my own teenagers, I undersand that they do not change their behavior until they find a need to change their behavior. As an example, my girls used to fight between them until one of my girls felt they were hurting the other one's feelings. When this hit home for them, they began to get a long better. My children understand that there are other ways to work out their differences. When I think about the teenagers in Liberia, I understand that there needs to be a reason for them to change. The challenge may be that they have not had the experiences to move them to behavior change. However, through education, they may find a reason. The knowledge of self-efficacy theory will help me become more motivated to help teens in whatever country I decide to teach in. In order to motivate myself, I have an intrinsic
